Airdrieonians
fans boycotted their side's opening game of the season
in large numbers.
And they left those who did turn up frustrated at their
side's inability to hold on to a two-goal lead as Raith
Rovers hit back to earn a draw.
The Diamonds gave themselves a two-goal cushion in the
first half.
Their
first came after Craig McPherson beat three Raith defenders
before putting in a hard-hit cross that visiting defender
Paul Browne turned into his own net.
Neil
McFarland created the second goal 10 minutes later by
turning four opponents before carefully sending a pass
through to Owen Coyle. The striker advanced towards the
Raith goal before comfortably slotting home.
In
the second half, Rovers came out with all guns blazing
and, within six minutes, squared the match as Nacho Novo
tapped home from close range.
After
62 minutes, Darren Henderson also had an easy tap-in after
an excellent four-man move.
